I'd just go on about my business. Armageddon's come and gone many times over the millennia. It will come and go again. Now if there's a hurricane coming, I'll definitely get ready for that.

REALLY Think about it before you post
by avidbiblereader inthere is a lot of threads going back and forth both ways, almost like a battle line has been drawn between believers and atheists.
however, let's just say for the sake of argument, that all religions including the witnesses, are wrong but the bible in itself is right.. everything that it has foretold is going to happen and just as god told noah, in 7 more days i am going to make it rain, but this time he now speaks to all of us and says in just 7 more days i will wipe the earth clean of all those who have or are revolting/disagree against me.. how would you react then?
how would you live your next 7 days?

CONVERSATION WITH MY JW SISTER LAST NIGHT......
by Mary inwell i guess this was a long time in coming, but yesterday afternoon, my family all got together and had a bbq at my parents' home.
when my parents left at around 6:00pm to drive my one non-dub sister home, my other sister and brother in law (former elder), stayed for a while longer.. we've never discussed my leaving 'the truth' a couple of years ago but she brought it up last night and we started talking about the religion.
everyone had been drinking but no one was drunk, so alot got said.

I agree with AO on the brotherly love angle, especially since your sister is more loyal to you than to the bOrg. There must be a reason for that, Mary. Maybe she silently agrees that there is a lack of love in the bOrg. How does she actually view the disfellowshipping angle? Brotherly love and the lack of it might be a very good starting point.

What does your city/town smell like??
by horrible life inwhile on vacation, we drove through amarillo.
the smell of cattle was everywhere.
for the citizens of amarillo, texas, that is the smell of money.. in my town, we have the nearby paper mill, weyerhaeuser.

Every once in a while, my town also smells like a paper mill. The odor from Riegelwood's paper plant is horrid. Thankfully, it's only occasional. Other times, I can smell the marsh and the sea, but that's also rare, unless I am at the beach or by the river. Mostly, it smells like traffic - from the tourists and the live-ins and the commuters - which is also what money smells like. I like the ocean smell the best.

What Positive Things Have You Achieved Since Leaving?
by sweet pea inpurps' wonderful thread about love made me wonder about something else.
what have you achieved/become since leaving the organisation that proves there is a happy, successful life outside being a jehovah's witness?
for me, although it's only been a very short time, too short to achieve much, i count becoming: non-judgemental of my fellow man; a mum that can give her kids all the room to grow and blossom without fear of 'sinning' or being kicked out for bad behaviour; a person that can feel comfortable worshipping in a church or not, depending on whatever i feel like doing; someone who can love and give freely and celebrate life in all it's glory (i just love birthdays!

My mind is better (believe it or not). I actually think about the future in terms of it going on without me, and in terms of how what I do or don't do today will impact the future for others. I think in terms of very deep time - about the past and the future - and how I can positively or negatively impact the future, in terms of my own "ecological footprint" - not in terms of a "new system" to come. A "new system" is a nice dream, but I know it's also nonsense, and planning for utopia or for heaven can be an excuse to be irresponsible with the finite resources of this beautiful, but damaged planet. I'm a bit depressed by that, but I am definitely a lot less fatalistic than I was as a JW.

Last night, I was able to wrap up two lovely birthday gifts for a couple of special people, without even giving the remotest thought to whether or not it was okay "in jehovah's eyes." Things like that rarely cross my mind when celebrating special occasions. I just enjoy them. I attended college and graduated with a degree in Liberal Arts. I am able to visit a psychiatrist and accept help without the interference of a controlling religious organization. I feel confident that if I need other medical care, such as a blood transfusion in an emergency, there will be no one to interfere with it. I have a lovely, independent-minded daughter who is growing each day, away from my cult-influenced family, towards a wider view of the world and its people. She will, no doubt, "know things I'll never know" in this "Wonderful World" (think of the song).

From age 15 to 18, I was like a wild horse in bridle. From 18 to 21, I was like a wild horse set free. Oh! The joy! The bohemian joy! And the hangovers . . . and other toxic stuff, lol!

Restaurants and bad experiences
by greendawn inpeople in countries like the usa and britain take for granted eating out as if eating always at home will be a maddening experience, the social dimension with a change of environment is needed.
but there are some bad experiences as this: once in a restaurant i went to pay before eating my pancakes and as my companion also went to the toilet at the same time one of them went and very quickly in seconds took away the pancakes which were totally intact, without me seeing them from the paying point.
very sneaky.

Is Being A Jehovah's Witness a Mental Disorder?
by Amber Rose infrequently i have seen the subject of borderlind personallity disorder mentioned on this board.
many people here feel that friends or relatives display many of the charactaristics of the disorder.
people with histories of abuse seem to be drawn to this religion.
